About The Alternative
The Alternative is a 3-year-old media platform focusing on sustainable living and social impact. We strive to make sustainability an everyday conversation through choices we can make in our daily lives - from food to travel - in a way that lends itself to positive social impact. We reach out to over 2 lakh people every month and growing, via an online magazine, our events and engaging with corporations on sustainability.

Who are we looking for? A young features writer who is passionate about sustainability, is a digital native and has pronounced reporting and writing skills. The features writer will work on producing a variety of content formats on an everyday basis - feature articles, interviews, profiles, news analysis, product reviews, informal blogs, digests and multimedia content including slideshows.

Skills we seek

• We are looking for a recent graduate (0-2 years of experience) out of a journalism/mass communications program with Strong web journalism, communication and language skills


• Flair and flourish with the written word – experience in magazine writing/features writing in newspapers is a must


• Strong skills and ability to adapt to work with different media (videos, pictures, data etc) 


• Comfortable with technology and with working on online software including e-mail, social media, and Content Management systems (E.g. Wordpress) 


• Personal online presence on social media is a must. Working with social media to create stories is a big plus.

The successful candidate will:

• See the bigger picture -- understand how each assignment contributes to The Alternative’s tone and the overall composition of the media platform and how our content plays across platforms, from web to offline events


• Grasp the nuances of sustainable living and communicating it in interesting and engaging ways to a mainstream audience


• Have the ability to produce high-quality, engaging, in-depth, error-free content with ease, and comfortably and quickly spruce up copy with agility


• Thrive in engaging with people and maintaining relationships


• Be a creative thinker who is constantly generating ideas and suggesting new ways of tackling perennial topics


• Can travel to different parts of India, urban and rural


• Be a self-directed, motivated, committed-to-detail person who respects deadlines and can thrive in a fast-paced startup environment
